Students completed a height chart that allowed them to use maths to see how tall they grow this year and express how they feel about growing up. The students expressed themselves through maths and measuring one another to create a height chart for the yearStudents expressed a desire to create a more tidy and organised classroom, so they asked for hooks for our aprons and their ID badges. They expressed how they wanted to design and organise their classroom. The students started to research about sub-cultures and created a handout for their presentation. Students completed their handouts on their chosen sub cultures, after giving short presentations that included the history and style of their chosen sub culture. They were able to learn how different kinds of people express themselves internationally.Students are reading an article about the hippy sub-culture and are highlighting words that they don’t understand, so that they can expand reading skills and their vocabulary. As we are promoting peace and cultural understanding among staff, teachers and students in our school, we believe that we can help realize it by integrating international event such as United Nations’ Day Celebration which deals global issues. This annual celebration aims to help promote UN’s objectives to “preserve peace, advance justice and constitute a permanent structure for international cooperation.” Therefore as a school community with responsible citizens, we act to help countries work together to achieve peace and human rights. This celebration is considered as another learning opportunity that incorporates students making connections of the current global issues to what they have learned in their units of inquiry, applying a variety of life skills, and most of all provide students with opportunities to choose, to act, to decide on their actions and to reflect on their actions to make a difference.Halloween is celebrated in our school annually. It is considered as a day for kids to play dress up and indulge in some sweets during the school day. It is a day of fun and excitement but non-offensive and non-threatening. Objectives: 1.To have fun learning activities that will provoke students to think, ask and act 2.To be aware of the international celebrations and relevance of Halloween in western countries 3.To practice learner profile character traits and IB-PYP attitudes in celebrating Halloween Grade 6
