Nursery During the Pchum Ben holiday, Muili went to Japan and had a vacation with her family. She grabbed this opportunity to observe what types of pollution are present in Japan and how living things are affected by the pollution. Based on her actual research and personal observation, she knew that Japan has been credited to putting a lot of effort into reducing some forms of pollution but has been criticized for wreaking havoc on the environment in a number of areas and not forging a coherent long-term environmental policy. She learned through research that over the past 10 years, pollution has been a major issue in Japan with all of the factories and the increased demand for automobiles as well. The main source of problem is all of the industrial and automotive fumes coming from Tokyo. As we are promoting peace and cultural understanding among staff, teachers and students in our school, we believe that we can help realize it by integrating international event such as United Nations’ Day Celebration which deals global issues. This annual celebration aims to help promote UN’s objectives to “preserve peace, advance justice and constitute a permanent structure for international cooperation.” Therefore as a school community with responsible citizens, we act to help countries work together to achieve peace and human rights.

This celebration is considered as another learning opportunity that incorporates students making connections of the current global issues to what they have learned in their units of inquiry, applying a variety of life skills, and most of all provide students with opportunities to choose, to act, to decide on their actions and to reflect on their actions to make a difference.
