Grade 1 entrants should be aged 6-7 years old on the day of enrollment. A child under the age of 6-7 years cannot yet enter Grade 1 even if his/her placement exam shows that his/her academic ability is that of Grade 1 already. If a parent insists for the Grade level of their child other than the recommendation of the school, the school and the parent should enter into a special memorandum of agreement addressing this problem.

As required by IB, students will be assigned to each grade according to their age and not ability. The age range is as follows:

Daycare Program        - 2 years old

Early Years Program (EYP)

Nursery             - 3 years old

Preschool         - 4 years old

Kindergarten    - 5 years old

Primary Years Program (PYP)

No special memorandum can be agreed between the school and the parent/guardian to have a student assigned a grade based on his/her ability. Each teacher within Fredfort has been assigned to adopt a differentiated approach to teaching and learning, therefore, different needs will be met within the classroom with regards to student ability.
